Bylaw 1647R - Land Use Bylaw Amendment

At the September 9th, 2025 Council Meeting Council gave first reading to an amending bylaw that will amend the Land use Bylaw as follows:

  • Allowing detached secondary suits, also known as mother-in-law suites, in R1 Residential areas.
  • Changing building setbacks in R3 Residential from 30ft to 20ft.

Regular Meeting of Council 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each Month, 5:00 p.m.
Organizational Meeting of Council Annually, not later than 2 weeks after the 3rd Monday in October.
Special Meetings of Council At least 24hrs notice given prior to meeting.

Notice of any Change of Meeting Times must be given at least 24hrs prior to the meeting date.

East Area Redevelopment Plan Amendment 1573B

Council is proposing a change to the future subdivision of the East area South of the Jr. High School and the Soccer Park. The amendment to the redevelopment plan will create several new lots adjacent to the South of the soccer fields.

Land Use Bylaw Amendment 1647S

This amendment will rezone the newly subdivided lots from Residential (R1) to Public & Institutional (P) and General Industrial (I).

Land Use Bylaw Amendment 1647Q

This is a mandatory public hearing for a proposed amendment to the Land Use Bylaw. 

The proposed amendment will Incorporate the updated flood mapping (available for viewing on floods.alberta.ca/) into the Flood Damage Reduction Overlay District (FDR). This specific Land Use zone is only applicable to properties that lay within the flood fringe boundaries identified on the flood hazard map.  

It will also allowing permanent shipping containers in Recreation & Open Spaces. Previously shipping containers were prohibited, but Council has decided they would like to make them discretionary near playing fields for the benefit of sports clubs in Town with storage needs.
