NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING - Land use Bylaw 1649R
September 10 2025Council gave first reading to Bylaw 1649R at the September 9, 2025 Regular Council Meeting. This bylaw is an amendment to the Land Use Bylaw that proposes allowing detached secondary suites in residential zones, and changes the building setbacks in the Creekside development by the golf course.
All bylaws require three readings before they can be passed. Amendments to statutory and planning documents, such as the Land Use Bylaw, require a mandatory public hearing before second reading.
A public Hearing for Bylaw 1649R is scheduled for September 23rd at 6:00 PM.

TOWN OF CARDSTON
IN THE PROVINCE OF ALBERTA
PROPOSED BYLAW NO. 1647R

PURSUANT to sections 216.4, 606, and 692 of the Municipal Government Act, Revised Statutes of Alberta 2000, Chapter M-26, the Council of the Town of Cardston in the Province of Alberta hereby gives notice of its intention to consider proposed Bylaw No. 1647R, being a bylaw to amend Bylaw No. 1647, being the municipal land use bylaw.
THE PURPOSE of proposed Bylaw No. 1647R is to provide for detached accessory housing in the R1 District by adding “Garden Suite” and “Garage Suite” as Discretionary Uses – MPC along with design requirements and development standards for the same; revising standards for accessory housing in all applicable land use districts (including R1, R3 and R5) by stipulating in the land use definitions for detached accessory housing that acceptable forms include site-built dwellings and new prefabricated dwellings (but not previously occupied moved-in dwellings); and to revise the setback and other requirements for the Creekworks subdivision (lots within Plan 161 0008) within the R3 District to align with the developer’s design setbacks.
THEREFORE, TAKE NOTICE THAT a public hearing to consider the proposed Bylaw No. 1649R will be held in the Town of Cardston Council Chambers at 6:00PM on September 23rd, 2025.
AND FURTHER TAKE NOTICE that anyone wishing to make a presentation regarding the proposed bylaw should contact the Municipal Administrator no later than 12:00PM on September 19th, 2025. Both written and verbal presentations may be given at the public hearing.
A copy of the proposed bylaw may be inspected at the Town of Cardston municipal office during normal business hours.
