Grass and Compost Pile Permanently Closed at Transfer Station
May 5 2025
Effective immediately, the grass and compost pile at the Cardston Transfer Station is permanently closed. Despite repeated efforts to keep the pile clean and limited to grass clippings, ongoing misuse has made it unmanageable. Individuals continue to dump household garbage, bags, sticks, and other prohibited materials in the pile, contaminating what should have been clean organic waste.
This kind of dumping and contamination undermines the purpose of the compost area. After careful consideration, the decision has been made to close the pile permanently.
What this means going forward:
-
Grass clippings are still accepted at the transfer station.
-
Instead of a separate compost pile, all grass will now be directed to the burn pile and will be burned alongside clean wood and brush.
We appreciate everyone who used the compost pile responsibly in the past. Unfortunately, the continued abuse by a few has made the site unsustainable. If you have questions about disposal or alternatives for composting at home, feel free to contact the Town Office.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
