Covid 19 Update on our Health Region
Fall is in the air, Schools are back in session and Thanksgiving is around the corner. It is time for me to give you a Covid update. First of all I want to commend you for having followed the Alberta Health Services protocole with such diligence. Your personal behaviour had a positive impact on the Covid 19 situation in our health region that includes the Blood Reserve and the County. After spiking some 6 weeks ago, the number of active cases declined and stayed stable at 2 with an overall 105 cases and 5 regrettable deaths.
This past week, we started to see a resurgence of active cases in Lethbridge and Lethbridge County. We also have a new active case in our health region. It is very important for us all to carry on doing our part, remembering to frequently wash or sanitize our hands, staying home if feeling unwell, getting tested if feeling sick or having been exposed to Covid, keep our 6 ft distancing and wearing a mask if unable to social distance. And to add to our Alberta Health Chief Medical Doctor, keep your gathering small when you celebrate simply to avoid potential rapid community transmission.
Covid 19 and Related items:
The town supports having Halloween and allowing Trick and Treating. This is an outdoor activity. Parents will need to follow recommendations made by Alberta Health Services and make decisions regarding the wearing of masks and gloves for their children. It will also be up to each household to decide if they want to participate and if they will place treats outside or hand them out to the children when they knock on the door or ring the bell.
Have a Safe Halloween!
- Open house for a Future Rec Center
Council has approved in principle the concept of developing an affordable multipurpose Recreation Center. The Pickle Ball Association is actively spearheading this idea. When the Town has a clearer and more detailed sense of the facility, its blueprint, its location and funding model as well as impact on taxation, the Town will host an open house to seek some input from its citizens. Keep posted !
- Golf Course and new Clubhouse
The Season of Golfing during Covid 19 could not have been better financially. The weather was on our side and this outdoor activity proved to be extremely popular from young to Golden Age. Thank you all for your support. Many golfers came from diverse locations in Southern Alberta and discovered our unique setting , however golfers local and non-local have voiced for years the need for a clubhouse that could complement the beauty of our Les Ferber Course. The Golf Course Association is interested in spearheading a partnership with the Town to upgrade the facility. An open house will take place when we are ready to provide details about this potential new facility and its financing model. Here again, keep posted!
- Policing and Town issues
Citizens have expressed concerns or are asking questions as to the role of the RCMP in Town. Due to Covid 19 gathering restrictions we cannot have a public forum to answer your questions, however we are providing an alternative model. The Town has a website where you can ask questions that you would like answered. Our RCMP Sergeant and myself as mayor will have a Q and S Session that is intended to offer answers and information regarding various policing issues. Please take time to send your question. Keep posted !
Enjoy a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving and take time to thank all those who make a difference in your lives. Gratitude is a great gift indeed!
It is always a pleasure to serve you all,
