Mayor and Council attended the 2018 Conference of the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) in Red Deer last week.

The conference included three days of sessions, workshops and meetings with more than one-thousand municipal elected delegates including mayors, reeves, and councilors as well as administrators and other partners from across the province. Throughout the conference, several meetings were held with Provincial Ministers from the Cabinet of Alberta, and the Premier who was in attendance.

Topics of discussion were varied, but the sessions Town Council attended included discussions on recycling, the opioid crisis, inter-municipal collaboration, community leadership, affordable housing, and how AUMA advocates for the advancement of municipal agendas.

AUMA provides solutions and resources for municipal issues and challenges so that each municipality does not otherwise have to expend time and resources to individually undertake those actions. They host a convention annually to address current political issues, help municipal leaders network with other councils, and facilitate education for local leaders.
