  • Market Garden at the Ice Arena, Behind the Card Pioneer Home 339 Main Street Cardston, AB, T0K 0K0 Canada (map)

The Cardston News Thursday May 14, 1931 reported; On May 11, 1931 the Stake Relief Society Board, the Ward presidencies of the Relief Societies of the two Cardston Wards and a number of citizens gathered at the war memorial at the court house to plant some trees.
Mrs. Dora Jacobs explained the five elm trees were planted in loving memory of the thirty-three splendid men whom we all revere as the Fathers of Confederation.
Mr. Rulon E. Hicken, the Principle of the High School concluded his remarks by saying, “ then let these trees planted in loving and patriotic hands, and nurtured by this virgin soil, the sunshine and the dews of heaven, grow to be fitting monuments to the wisdom and foresight of those Pioneer Canadian Statesmen, whose memory we love to honor, “ The Fathers of Confederation”..
The Communities in Bloom committee of the Town of Cardston is gearing up for the 150th celebration of Canada and the formal recognition of these memorial trees as heritage trees.
