Notice of Public Hearings
Official notice is being given for two public hearings to be held on Tuesday, September 11th 2018 in Council Chambers at the Civic Centre. Public hearings are required by Provincial Legislation when changes are being made to certain bylaws that can significantly impact members of the community.
Bylaw 1559D - West Cardston Area Structure Plan Amendment
The first public hearing will take place at 6:00 p.m. and is in regards to a proposed amendment to the West Area Structure Plan. A local developer has requested that the plan be amended to allow for the subdivision of larger residential lots with direct road access from 2A and 3rd Avenues West onto the West Bypass, see the map below for the proposed amended areas.
Bylaw 1647C - Land Use Bylaw Amendment: Cannabis Dispensaries.
The second public hearing will take place at 6:30 p.m., immediately following the public hearing for Bylaw 1559D, and is in regards to necessary changes to the Land Use Bylaw surrounding the sale of cannabis. Municipalities are required by new legislation to establish where marijuana and cannabis dispensaries can be built. The proposed amendment suggests a 300 metre buffer from all areas in Town where children tend to congregate, including schools, parks, playgrounds, recreation facilities or areas, and places of worship. Dispensaries will only be permitted outside an approved buffer zone, and in appropriate land use districts.
