We are excited to announce the recipients of this year's Citizen of the Year Awards!
With Justin Low as our Citizen of the Year and Tom Traweek as our Lifetime Citizen of the Year we celebrate the many volunteer hours spent by these two awardees.
The nominees are judged based on a number of criteria including club service, music, drama, recreation, service to senior citizens and any other service worthy of recognition.
The purpose of these awards is to recognize significant accomplishments in the past year, and the lasting contributions to our community by long-time residents.
2017 Citizen of the Year
Justin Low comes from a prominent family of doctors, and is considered to be very compassionate and caring to all his patients. The father of 6 is an active in sports and community clubs within the community. As a Rotary Club member, Justin held a large role in the planning and fundraising of the new Rotary Club playground in Lions Park, and is currently serving as the club president. As a doctor, Justin has been a mentor to students at the hospital, and recently received the Rural Family Medicine Preceptor Award. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Justin is currently the 1st counsellor of the 7th ward, before this he volunteered his time as a young men’s leader and was an inspiration to all the youth of the ward.
Lifetime Citizen Achievement Award
Tom Traweek has been the owner/operator of Kirk's Tire has for over 30 years, providing service to Cardston and the surrounding area. After working long hours in his shop, Tom has still found time to coach basketball and baseball on and off for over 30 years. In addition to his volunteer work, Tom is also a philanthropist, donating generously to 4-H Alberta and public school events.
