The Festival of Colours is a modern adaptation of a traditional ancient hindu celebration know as Holi. Holi is mainly celebrated in India and Nepal around the first full moon of the spring season, and is linked to several Hindu legends about the triumph of good over evil. It announces the the arrival of spring and the passing of winter with a celebration of all the colourful flowers and blossoms coming into bloom. For many it marks the beginning of a new year and a time to start over, the quarrels and conflicts of the past are laid to rest, relationships are renewed, and emotional impurities are cleansed. It's an all inclusive holiday, where the traditional social barriers are broken, and people from every walk of life are brought together.
