4th Ave W Speed Limit Change

Effective immediately, the speed limit on all of 4th Avenue West has been permanently reduced to 30km/h between Main Street and 9th Street. This is the full 1.5 km length of 4th Avenue on the West side of Cardston.  The number of playground zones and school zones on 4th Avenue essentially made the entire Avenue a 30km/h zone during school hours as it was, with small sections in-between the zones where normal urban speeds could be resumed. In order to simplify the situation on 4th Ave, and make it less confusing for all drivers, the zones will no longer be individually marked on 4th Ave, and only Maximum 30km/h signs will remain.

At this time it is prudent to remind everyone that our new peace officer is a Level 1 peace officer, and Level 1 Peace Officers are given authority by the province to enforce the Traffic Safety Act, which includes all moving traffic violations, including speeding.

Please be alert when driving on 4th Avenue, and obey the posted speed limit of 30km/h. Alter your regular driving route if necessary in order to avoid exceeding the limit on 4th. Your community thanks you for making your neighbourhood safer by obeying the posted limit, and driving slower on this avenue.

The maximum speed of 30km/h will be for the full length of 4th Avenue West.
